Heavenly Logic.

Understanding what is NOT our objective can be nearly as important as understanding what the objective is. We know what we’re trying to build, and we understand what kind of content we’re trying to create. However, if we do not account for what we are not called to do, we may easily begin to think that part of the goal is to receive the cheers or approval of every person we cross paths with.

Recently, I had a thought-provoking conversation with a fellow filmmaker. What was communicated to me was that we as RBRN Media might run the risk of being seen as untrustworthy because of our age - that, perhaps, we may not fair well with certain contacts, because we are as young as we are.

I ran these things over in my mind. Although none of it should remove credit from our Lord - who does the building, at the end of the day - we have indeed worked hard to get to where we are, and were have tried to be good stewards of what is in front of us. I cannot recall another time when age has been brought up as a damaging factor. Granted, this person has no ill will, and we had placed ourselves in a position to learn from them. So, these pondering of mine are not meant to cast judgement on them. Rather, this post is an acknowledgement of what it can feel like to be met with reasons for doubt - and it is an insistence for you and I to move beyond said doubt.

As for this present situation, I tried to reassure myself with what I knew to be true.

Reality is, we are not called to use the same logic as the world. Rather, we are told to not let anyone look down on us because we are young - but rather, to set an example for the believers (1 Timothy 4:12). We are invited into this by the God who made the stars, who shaped Heaven and Earth - who has saved us, and who has called us for his predetermined purposes. Our logic has to be different.

Even knowing all of the above, I found myself a little bit discouraged. So, during a conversation with another filmmaker, I brought up my concerns. Very quickly, I received the encouragement that I needed. Truth be told, someone will always have a reason to disqualify or downgrade you. This can happen no matter your age.

Young or old, none of us are immune to potentially having our next contact refuse to take us seriously. That’s ok. What we need to do is cling to a Heavenly logic, trusting that our Lord will bring the right people along at just the right time - people who see what he wants them to see in us, and in our productions. We have to believe that, at the end of the day, he will do what he wants to do - and that we don’t need anything more done for us that that. Finally, we have to prioritize our God above all of it, trusting that if all we do is please him in our obedience, then that is enough.

Choose Heavenly logic today. Take up your discouragements, and hand them over to the Lord. Ask him to help you see things the way that he sees them!

Your goal is not to please everyone. Just to please him.
